ReplyDeleteTrainer dies in killer whale attack; A trainer has died after being attacked by a killer whale at the SeaWorld park in Orlando, Florida.
(You can watch the video)

The Story:
Trainer dies in killer whale attack
A trainer has died after being attacked by a killer whale at the SeaWorld park in Orlando, Florida.
Some people who were there said the whale, called Tilikum, grabbed trainer Dawn Brancheau from the side of the pool and pulled her into the water.
However, local police said she may have slipped and fallen into the pool.
Mrs Brancheau had worked with killer whales for 16 years. This is the third time Tilikum has been involved in the death of a human.
Tilikum was one of three orca whales involved in the death of a trainer in 1991 after she had fallen into a pool at a park in Canada.
Then Tilikum was moved to SeaWorld in Orlando and a man was found dead in her pool. It was thought the man had crept into the park after closing time.
Guests who were at the pool were taken away from the area while staff tried to revive Mrs Brancheau, but sadly it was too late.
Investigation
A SeaWorld spokesman said an investigation was under way to find out exactly what happened.
Although they are called killer whales, orcas are actually the largest member of the dolphin family.
SeaWorld Orlando has temporarily closed after the incident.

ReplyDeleteART GALLERY TRIP
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the trip to the Art Gallery.
SCULPTURES
My favourite sculpture was The Albatross by Tanya Asken.
She named it the Albatross because it was big, wide and around water.
She has also been fascinated by albatrosses all her life.
I also really liked the Geometric Mirrored Sculptures outside Te Papa.
They were designed and made by Peter Trevelyan.
They each have around 300 mirrors!
They are 3.2 metres high.
People had different ideas about what they looked like.
Some ideas were;
• Diamonds
• Rubik cubes gone wrong
• A partially deflated football
• A tent
I thought they looked like diamonds, rubiks cubes or mirrors.
They will stay on the waterfront site for two years.
CITY GALLERY
The part I enjoyed most was painting the abstraction paintings.
Abstraction Paintings are not real things, just shapes and colours.
I also liked making pictures with the warm and cold shapes.
I enjoyed looking at the abstraction art by Milan Mrkusich as well.
My favourite artist was Seraphine Pick.
I think it was interesting how she created her paintings and the different colours she used in her works.
Her paintings are the opposite of Milan Mrkusich’s.
She likes her paintings of things in the real world.
Kids Teach Leah Sign Language;
ReplyDeleteMany deaf children in England are not getting the help and support they need.
Leah went to meet some children with hearing problems.

This is my article about the earthquake hitting chille.
ReplyDeleteA massive earthquake with an 8.8 magnitude has hit Chile in South America.
It's difficult to estimate because of the chaos there, but at least 120 people are said to have been killed.
It struck in the middle of the night off the coast of Chile, about 56 miles north-east of the city of Concepcion.
Buildings have fallen, telephone lines are down, some hospitals have been evacuated and the international airport is closed and all flights cancelled.
The President of Chile has declared a state of catatstrophe in the country, and she's asked people to be calm and to stay in their homes.
A map of where the earthquake struck
It's become very difficult to travel because lots of bridges near where the quake struck are down.
It's the biggest earthquake to hit Chile for 50 years.
Tsunami warnings
Earthquake experts warned that the tremor could trigger huge waves in the Pacific Ocean, affecting countries thousands of miles away from Chile like Australia and New Zealand.
They say the tsunami alerts are particularly serious for Hawaii and for Easter Island.
Earthquake history
Buildings were damaged in the capital Santiago
Chile has a history of being affected by earthquakes.
The country saw the biggest earthquake of the 20th century when a 9.5 magnitude quake struck the city of Valdivia in 1960.
The earthquake that hit last night is stronger than the one that hit Haiti in January.
But Chile is a richer country and the emergency services are responding more quickly to the disaster.
This is such a sad story!!!
It is also going to hit japan with a 9 foot tsunami
I think it was a good trip. But my best bit was in the Art Gallery when we were doing the Mrkusich art. I liked looking at the sculptures, my favourite one is the City to Sea Bridge then the blobs and the Fern.
ReplyDeletemy favourite sculpture is the albatross. It was really funny because my group were touching it,and the fountains turned on and we got wet! My favourite artist is Millan Murkasich, but I prefer the paintings that actually have objects in it.

ReplyDeleteART GALLERY
ReplyDeleteIs an art gallery never interesting!?
The gallery and sculptures on the waterfront were all sooooo interesting in the way the artists expressed themselves using different shapes and colours and materials.
My favourite was the Ferns because it used native materials as an inspiration for it's design.
i looked on cbbc and found a article about a dog that ate some explosies .its lucky that she dident explode
ReplyDeleteIceberg Threatens Pengiuns!
ReplyDeleteA iceberg 78 kilometres long = 8,125 London buses broke off in Antartica in early February.
This means that Emperor penguins and seals have the disadvantage of having to go further across the ice to fish for food.
I liked when we had all kinds of shapes and we had to create a painting with all the different shapes. The best part was when we were on the bridge to the sea. It was really fun beacause there were different little houses that we could go in. I will talk about the website's article tomorrow.
